Just thought i would update you on my journey through eharmony. I have been on eharmony for about 1mo now…. and so far, well i’m getting discouraged. I have had over 100 matches and have closed most of them. I really want to show you pictures of some of the guys i didn’t choose because they are quite entertaining. I mean, who knew that mullets were back in style :) Also, i think some of these guys need help in choosing which pictures they should upload and which they should NOT!! emphasis on not!! hahahaha. One guy’s profile consisted entirely of photos of him with his Javelin. Yes, javelin!!!!! He was in a martial arts outfit.. but seriously. haha. i guess his thinking was much like Napoleon Dynamites “a girl likes a guy with skills.” – esp. javelin skills. haha.
I really want to show these pics because they are so entertaining .. but alas, those of you reading my blog may actually know the ninja javelin lover or the fellow with the mullet – I will resist the temptation. Ok.. i can’t stand it… i will only show you one.. ONLY because his face is hidden…. we will just call him Luke S. for obvious reasons. :)

Have any of you done eharmony and had a success? Should i stay on this thing… or do i need to try some other options? Ha.. believe me .. i am beginning to wonder.

Thought it would be fun to have a little contest where you get to vote on your favorite photo!! All you have to do is vote on the one you like – or even a few of the ones you like… and the picture with the most comments.. will win!!!!! All you have to do is become my friend on facebook to leave a comment on the photo that you love. The winner represented in the photo will receive a FREE MINI PHOTOSHOOT which they can keep or give away as a gift. So go on over to my page on facebook and check out the gallery of some of my favorite wedding, senior and portrait photography of 2009. I had to narrow it down some or it would have been super long. The deadline for the contest is February 8. So, get your votes in before then and we will tally up the winner of the Photography Contest shortly thereafter. AND yes, you can tell your friends to vote for you. And just for fun and because every post is better with a photo .. here are FEW of my favorite non-people photos.

Before you grab to eat the goodies.. you may just want to be sure that what you are grabbing are not just decorations.
My Mom likes to use candy as decorations.. to give color to bowls, etc. The problem is that we don’t know how long the candy has been sitting there :) Let me give you an example:
All the colorful gummy goodness is just beckoning you to have a bite. Haha.. but there is no telling how long the little candy tree has been there giving color to the room. Notice there are no missing gummies – why.. because we all know.. that candy is for decoration!!! If you see this tree, just resist :) and ask me where the good stuff is (wink).

Who doesn’t love a weekend with the girls?!! This past weekend, i went to a women’s retreat at Kavanaugh Retreat Center right outside of Louisville, KY. I must admit it was great to unplug from cell and internet and just laugh and eat and enjoy the company of other women. There were women from all walks of life – grandmothers to college students. After sharing, laughing and crying together – I have bonded with all these women. I have such a deep gratitude and appreciation for the privilege of knowing their stories and the opportunity to share mine as well. I just can’t say enough about this little retreat at Kavanaugh. Women at the Cross put all of this together.. they have retreats in Louisville, Colorado and soon to be Alabama. I would recommend anyone to sign up!!! I just thought you would like to meet some of the amazing -truly authentic -women that impacted my life this weekend.
We were so busy that i didn’t get a lot of time to take photos (although they did ask me to do all the group photography) – I was able to get away for about 5 minutes to take these photos around Kavanaugh Retreat Center.

Just a little side note… that i forgot to mention. One of my roomies got engaged over the holidays!!!!! woo hoo. Her boyfriend asked if he could get in our house to decorate her room (wink). Yes, girls totally know the code – it’s not really that hard to figure out when a guy says he wants to decorate– HA. And she was so surprised ..i heard her yell… Yes :) !!!!! Soon, i will get to do their engagement photos.
And then the very next day, another friend got engaged. There have also been several more. Love is just all around me :)
I had to grab some photos of the happy girls!! and, of course, show off the bling!!
And their fellas are so amazing. I’m so excited i get to participate in celebrating both couples by doing their photography. So, you will definitely see these couples again!!! All together now on the count of three

Defined as something unusual — perhaps worthy of collecting. Over the holidays, i got rather caught up in Knick Knacks and such. But i have never been a girl who buys knick knacks.. the closest i have come is a candle. I go to the store.. i see these cute things.. but then i think.. it serves no purpose.. it has no function other than to sit there. So, i walk away.. with no knick and no knack. I think i have just always been a little more frugal with my money.. only buying what you need or what is functional. Sooo.. I’m thinking this year.. i might just have to purchase a knick or a knack to put around the my Louisville home. And i will just enjoy as it was intended .. to just look at and like it. They also seem to warm up a home too. Sooo.. i took a few photos of some around my Mom’s house.
i mean, it’s hard not to like Christmas Knick Knacks!!
How cute are these penguins :)

Introducing my friend Julie…. i’m kinda partial to her name for obvious reasons. She has a heart for missions and is planning on working overseas in a few months. We decided to get together to work on photos that she can send to family and friends while she is away. We had so much fun… and yes, we kept singing that song (singing in the rain). I’m sorry if that tune is now in your head… because it is totally in mine!!! :-P
WE thought about canceling because of the rain.. but my friend julie loves umbrellas. I mean LOVES them… ha, i had to make sure it wasn’t in every photo :). So, we went around Louisville avoiding the puddles and trying to stay dry. Isn’t she just so cute.

What is it about us – something deep inside that desires to be a hero. We want to be heroic! We love the hero/heroin when they save the day. Even as a child this was in my mind as i sported around the house in my ‘wonder woman‘ underoos – using cups as arm bands — i had all types of scenarios where i saved the day. I wanted to do something great!!
i think we all still have that longing inside.. to do something great. Even in my spiritual walk – i have wanted to lay it all down for Christ. I wanted to do something great or just to be great. I still do – i often get caught up in a noble purpose and want to dive in and do great things or to be a hero.
I would have loved to go to Haiti.. to jump into the rubble to search, to hold people who are hurting, to help… why? I love people and i am moved with compassion and that causes me to act. But honestly.. i don’t have the skills.. i only have the love. i don’t necessarily think this is a bad thought to want to do great things and be great… but i think God is changing my perspective here some and my idea on what is great.
Micah 6:6-7
With what shall I come before the LORD
and bow down before the exalted God?
Shall I come before him with burnt offerings,
with calves a year old?
Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams,
with ten thousand rivers of oil?
Shall I offer my firstborn for my transgression,
the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?
Even if I have great things.. great sacrifices… will the Lord be pleased? What shall I give? For whatever i have, it is not great enough. The Lord is teaching this little photographer much in this passage. It can be applied to so much in my life.
I have been blessed with some good skills ( numchuck skills :) haha.. i mean just in general .. i can do a lot out of my own power. So.. this isn’t always a good thing.. as i perhaps lean on my own abilities too much.
Hmmm.. i am realizing more and more that I can’t do it – I can’t be great on my own. I don’t have the strength. I don’t have the ability. I don’t have the resources to earn favor. I have grown weary with effort to earn or to make something work. One my friend’s told me once – ( after i said, i don’t think i can do relationships.. they are hard.) She said.. “exactly, none of us can.. that’s exactly where you need to be”
John Piper uses this illustration in Future Grace (one of my most favorite books) .
Some hunters use a nut in a jar to capture Monkeys. The monkey seeing the nut will reach inside the jar to grab the nut, but the since the hole isn’t very large, the monkey gets stuck and the hunter can get the monkey. The Monkey will hold on to the nut… gripping it, all of it’s efforts focused on that one thing… and cannot even think to let it go. Because of that, the monkey loses his freedom. He doesn’t get what he desires and is captive to holding onto or striving for something he can’t get. What is it.. just a little nut .. he loses his life striving after a nut (not gonna lie.. i kinda wanna break out into a CC Music Factory Song right now) “It’s your world, and i’m just a squirrel trying to get a nut” HaHa.. do you know that song…
anywayssssss
What shall i give… i cannot give except that which has been given.
vs. 8
He has showed you, O man, what is good.
And what does the LORD require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God.
walking humbly with God. I am not great .. he is. The only way i can be great is with Him. I let go of striving.. trying to get what i can’t get on my own… and i simply walk with God. Humbly… loving his mercy and doing the right thing. That is all we are asked .. this is what is GREAT.
I let go of the nut – i stop striving for what cannot be gotten. I give up.. actually. And i walk in glorious freedom humbly with my God. Whatever that looks like.. whatever it means.
REST in his gift.. you can only give what has been given.
What shall i give…

Julie is a dear friend with a really cool name ;) and a heart for missions. So, we got together to work on her prayer card. This is not one we are using… but just wanted to give you a sneak peak at our little afternoon photo shoot in Louisville. Fun. Fun.
i think i was in trouble here or something :) I’m trying to think of a good caption — she is such a sassy pants :) love it.
Went to a bridal show a few weeks ago in Louisville… and wanted to announce the winner of our wedding drawing. The lucky bride and groom get 20% off a wedding package of their choice when combined with videography. And the winner is!!!!!

For those of you tuning in… Eric and I will give 10% off the total wedding package (photography and videography) if you book both of us before Feb. 1, 2010. Looking forward to capturing your beautiful day :)
