The Ball Family is one of my favorite families in Louisville. For one, they are pretty much zany. Yep, I said zany… that is probably the best word to describe them. They are just fun – people just like to hang out with them – single people, college students – pretty much everyone. I think that is pretty awesome if your family just makes everyone feel at home and included. That’s how I feel with them. Here’s some with my session with the incredible zany Ball family :)

I love this ring shot from their wedding .. because i am a snoop and ask tons of questions about their lives, I discovered that this is the beer that they had on their first date. It’s their drink.. they went from sharing a drink – to sharing their lives. AWWWWW :) I know – so deep. haha. Melissa and Steve had a beautiful small wedding in Louisville. The whole wedding – ceremony and reception was just plain sweet. I mean that literally and figuratively – since Melissa and her whole family can cook – they put a high premium on quality food and fortunately, I was able to appreciate it fully. haha. Here are some of the highlights from the wedding and intimate reception here in Louisville. I loved being their photographer.

One of the most amazing events I have ever been a part of as a photographer. The event was designed to celebrate and love people who have disabilities. There were about 400 plus attendees to come to the Prom in their honor. There were about 600 plus volunteers and contributors to make this event a success. From prom dresses and tuxes being donated, to limousine rides, to free food from places like Chick-fil-A and of course, Papa John’s. The list goes on and on. But my absolute favorite – was the red carpet treatment each attendee received.

I seem to get a lot of senior guys asking me to do their photo shoots. I think I realized why after this shoot. It just may be because of photos like these.

Sarah has an artist’s heart. In fact, so does her father.. which means they think out of the box. I love it!! They had chickens in their back yard and they live in a little place in Louisville known as the highlands – haha, they are in the perfect part of town for artists. Having your own chickens is so smart because they have fresh eggs to eat that aren’t tainted by antibiotics or hormones or anything else we have decided to give chickens to increase egg production. We had to include the chickens in the senior photo shoot.

Megan celebrated her birthday with me by doing a fun portrait photography session. Megan went with me to Kenya this past summer and we quickly became “bff’s to be”. She is funny and quirky and just plain adorable. I always laugh when I am with her. Here’s some from my fun photo session with Megan..
39 votes // vote as favoriteA little fun fact about Megan – she loves barns. So, I went through some of the backwoods of Louisville to look for the perfect outdoor setting. We found it – barns, dock, pond and a gorgeous field. Such a natural setting for a natural beauty. Seriously she is a natural beauty .. i didn’t do too much with these photos. Don’t hate.. she’s just that pretty. You can’t hate her anyway.. her personality is just too cute. Try not to smile back at her…

37 votes // vote as favoriteBecause I love this field, I can’t just stop with one photo…haha. This next series, consists of me asking Megan to run and play in this field. The bottom left corner is one of the times, she tripped or lost her shoe. Yes, she is even cute when she falls so I had to include it.
34 votes // vote as favoriteAfter all that running, I had her rest in the nice green grass where it just so happens that these beautiful yellow flowers were growing. :) i may have put them there.. there’s no telling!! If you say, this looks twilight… she will love you for that. She happens to like that book.

39 votes // vote as favoriteI get the honor and privilege to be the photographer for everything Scarlet Hope, but much more than that I participate in this ministry several hours a week. (Ha, that sounded like a hair club for men commercial.) It’s true though; I just love this ministry so much that I spend a lot of my time and energy in that direction. Scarlet Hope is a ministry that reaches out to share hope and love to women who are in the sex industry. Because of this ministry, lives are changed – not just the women who we come in contact with but ourselves as well. Last night at an old movie theater in New Albany called the Grand, we were able to celebrate those women who lives have been forever changed because they found freedom in Christ. The name Scarlet Hope is inspired by Matthew 27:27-31, the event on the way to the crucifixion when Jesus was stripped of his clothing and put in a scarlet robe to be mocked by Roman soldiers. One of the x-dancers put it like this, “On our chest we all wear a scarlet letter. How could I even walk into a Church?” The women in the clubs carry shame and our often mocked and shamed by the people around them. It’s only in Christ, that our shame can be taken away and true beauty restored. Everything about this night was a celebration, even having all the women come earlier to get dressed and all dolled up together. Literally and figuratively, exchanging our rags for beautiful clothes.

34 votes // vote as favoriteI never would have dreamed I would be a part of this ministry. About four years ago (ironically around the same time that Rachelle was praying about this ministry), two other women and myself went into a strip club to bring presents for some of the dancers. I remember the club manager wondering what we were up to and he told us that many church people don’t walk through the doors, they only yell from the street. He told us that he would give the gifts to the girls but we were unable to see them. Then we just kind of fizzled out and didn’t keep anything going because it takes time and energy and well, you can’t do it alone. Life got in the way and other things as well. Apparently, God was going to have someone there since he was stirring other hearts in the same direction, and I am thankful to women like Rachelle who were obedient to the call. I am also thankful that God brought me back around again and allowed me this season in my life to devote myself to this ministry. I can’t really tell you all this means to me personally. I don’t really think I have words for it. I do know that I see how God has fashioned my life so that he could use my past heartaches for his glory. I do know that I have been reminded that friendships go the distance in good and bad because we live that out everyday – you don’t give up on people, you love them, you fight for them. I do know that I am happy to spend my life and resources on things that are eternal, and if I never become a big time photographer – I’m cool with that – as long as I have enough to do what really matters. I do know that anything accomplished through this ministry is not because of anything we can do but because there is one greater than all of us already working. I also know that this is exactly where I am supposed to be though it’s hard sometimes. Loving people is never easy, but it’s worth it. I do know that I still have much to learn, but thankful I have a team – literally a team of people to keep me in line and to encourage me.

Spent the weekend in St. Louis with some of my favorite people to go to a retreat and concert featuring HILLSONG!! Yes we were that close… i could touch the stage. Such an amazing weekend, over 17,000 people at the St. Louis Convention Center. I had so much fun – mostly because I was with some of my favorite people.
