Sneak peek

I met the Brown Family while I was visiting my friends in Eden Prairie, MN.    If you ever get the chance to go to Eden Prairie, I would highly recommend it as the weather in June is simply beautiful and so are the sights.   The Brown family is so wonderfully sweet.   They pretty much smile all the time.   And as one who fought with her brothers a lot when I was younger, it was awesome to see a brother and sister really just enjoy each other.   They had no problem showing their love for one another in front of the camera – and also all of them were so photogenic.  One of my goals whenever I do family photography is to create an experience that’s fun and good family time.  When the youngest said ‘this is fun and definitely more fun than our Christmas card photos” , I knew I had met my goal.. lol.  Check out some of my favorites from their family photography session.

As a wedding photographer who tends to become friends with her clients, it is a joy to travel alongside a bride and groom and document their life together.  It’s an even bigger joy to see them begin a family and get to share in that too.   Claudia and Ari are definitely one of my favorite couples – their wedding was so much fun!   I still remember Ari’s first time seeing Claudia – for about an hour after he saw her – he kept talking about how beautiful she was and how it was a magical moment.   When I walked in their home to meet their first son,  it  was endearing to see Ari still verbally sharing about how beautiful and wonderful his wife is to him.    Claudia, you are so blessed to have a husband who goes on and on about you.  I can already see that he will be that way with his son too.   Charley was pretty much a laid back fella – and very easy to photograph except for the fact that he goes to the bathroom about every five minutes.   Needless to say, we didn’t do very many naked pictures for that reason.  LOL.   Here are some of my faves with Charley from his Newborn Mini-Photography Session.

I was excited to do some family photography in my hometown of Crescent Springs, KY. I arrived a little early so that I could explore – wow, so much had changed -or it could just be that you remember things differently when you are 6. I still have family living in Villa HIlls which is part of Crescent Springs. My cousin asked me to capture her beautiful family in some photographs. I think we are actually 2nd or 3rd cousins.. I am not really sure how the whole cousin thing works since my family (even my extended family) has always been close and been in each other’s lives. Basically my mom and her mom are cousins and we grew up seeing each other most weekends at the family farm. It’s so much fun growing up in a huge family and I could probably go on and on about all of them. :) I will spare you and get to the point!! Here is my cousin (2nd or 3rd or ?) and her beautiful family: The boys are just like her by the way – always smiling and laughing!!

Enjoy your pictures Bishop family and thanks for a fun morning!!

Guess who is expecting!!  Maternity sessions are a cute way to capture the excitement of new life coming.  I tell you one thing, Maria is the cutest pregnant woman I know.. she is so tiny and several times I had to tell her to make her baby belly bigger – haha.   Maria definitely has a glow and I think Scott does too..lol.   I am looking forward to taking newborn pics in a few months.   But for now, here is there awesome Maternity session!   We started out at  Garden Court at Presbyterian Seminary and then ended up in Cherokee Park.   I loved getting to take advantage of one the few sunny days in Louisville lately.

Meet the Heckman family from Louisville!  I always have fun doing photography sessions with teenagers especially boys who will love to run, jump and climb.  Meet Blake and Ben – two brothers who are very active and outdoorsmen.   They love to hunt and fish and well, wrestle.   But they are also brothers and even with all their play, there was a really sweet moment where the oldest helped the youngest climb a tree.   It just warmed my heart :)  Here are some of my favorite photos from the family photoshoot.

So, the mud was pretty deep and thick and wet.   When he threw rocks, I had to dodge the mud splatter!!  ahhh, boys.. lol!!!  I was much happier when he started trying to use smaller rocks to spell the first letter of his first name.   Here is what he did, not bad throwing rocks from a distance!

Jilly is one!!  I was privileged to be Jilly’s family photographer when she was just a newborn.  Now, look at her!! She is growing so fast, crawling and walking fast, too.   I was huffin and puffin trying to keep up!  This is why I need to stay in shape, not to look good but to keep up with photographing my clients (mostly the children).. lol.   Her brother even joined us for the day. He is a little model.  With every camera click, he changed his pose.  He cracked me up.. he really should be a childrens model.   Here are some photographs from their fun little childrens photography session.

Bye Jilly and Gavin!  I had so much fun photographing you!!  Even tho, I needed a nap after..lol.

Meet the Wilson Family.  They came all the way from South Carolina to visit family and friends in Louisville and they wanted me photograph them in a winter scene.  Fortunately, Louisville has been pretty reliable for winter scenes here lately!   They are planning to come back since the oldest son will be a senior and they need some senior photos, however, I am more than willing to come to South Carolina .. haha, I’m just saying!   They just so happened to pick the coldest day of the year so far.  However, they did fabulous and we all took turns getting warmed up in between shoots.   They were naturals.   I really enjoyed getting to know this family.

My favorite part about doing family photography is creating fun memories and interactions for the family in the day.   I want the professional photography experience to be a good one.  I simply love it when personalities and relationships start to show in their family.   Those always become my favorite photos.   This is the Wood’s family who came to town from Florida to visit Louisville, KY.  And why they were here, I was able to do a mini-photoshoot with their family.  It was a great day with still a little snow but warm enough where we weren’t freezing.    Here are some of my favorite photos of the day.

The next one is probably one of my favorite photos.  The oldest one made a comment that would be typical of a teenager.   I love the reactions of the family.. you can almost read everyone’s response.   The youngest girl with her look of “gross.”   The Dad while laughing and still saying,” Why would say something like that?”  The son with “I don’t know.”  His brother just laughing and the mom cracking up.   It’s of those family moments which makes a family a family.  I love it.

Thank you Wood’s Family.  I so enjoyed being your family photographer, but next time feel free to fly me to your neck of the woods.   A little Florida sun would be nice!!

Meet the Beard Family!  So enjoyed being their family photographer, especially since I was recording an important moment in their lives.  Jacob, the youngest son, left just the other day to serve in the coast guard.   You can only imagine what that might be like for his family to say goodbye to him for a period of time.  I so enjoyed seeing the family connections and mutual love and respect in their family.   They were even brave enough to go outside in this winter weather with the snow to capture some amazing photos on their farm.   The best part is when I took them down to their old barn which was leaning to one side and the oldest said to me, “We have another barn that looks a lot better.”  I laughed and said, ” No, this is exactly what I had in mind. It’s perfect.”   It ended up being my favorite photo of the day.   The photograph reminds me of Narnia.  I could very easily see all three of them in that movie fighting off evil and befriending Aslan, the Lion.   Can’t you?

Their tree in their front yard was absolutely amazing.  I have no idea how old it is, but you can tell it has survived through harsh conditions with  twisted limbs and a huge trunk.   I think it can be very symbolic of families and marriages because regardless of what hardships it has endured, it has developed character and that makes it beautiful enough to stand out.  I can just imagine the root system it takes to hold up a tree of that stature – just as it takes a strong foundation to have a strong marriage and family.   I thought it ideal that such a tree would be in their front yard.

Meet the Bayless Family!!  Matt Bayless leads worship in Louisville for Southeast Christian and I met his wife in a ministry I am involved with called Scarlet Hope.  Since then, I have gotten to know them pretty well and I love this family!!  We spent the day near their home in Floyd’s Knob and went to play in fields.   It was an amazing day with an amazing family.   Look for part two of their family photography session this spring.   Hopefully you will recognize them :)   I’m sure the kids will look a little different.  Here are some of my favorites from the field.   Enjoy and vote on some of your faves.
