In Rome, there are ruins everywhere you go -around the bend, to the left, to the right and beneath you. There are so many ruins in Rome, that some of the ruins are being used as park benches. Yep, a two thousand year old marble column turned on it’s side makes a lovely park bench for those tired Italian travelers. haha.. i am not joking. Everywhere you go in Rome, ruins will be found!! I have a practice of picking up a rock from every international destination I visit. Then I take that rock, label it with a date and place .. and throw it into my mom’s rock garden. There are destinations such as the Middle East, Africa, Poland, Peru and other world destinations just sitting in my Mom’s international rock garden. In Italy, I may have picked up part of a ruin… haha.. seriously, ruins are everywhere. So, my mom now has a rock (er, i mean ruin) dated from B.C. (Before Christ). All these ancient structures, made everything in Rome -that much more exciting. It was amazing to me to be standing on structures that were built over 2000 years ago and for it to be still be holding me up. All the ancient buildings rich with history gave me such an andrenaline rush that I could have walked for days exploring. I’m sure those accompanying me were weary of me since I just wanted to see one more thing and take one more photo.. haha. Did you know – I love Rome?!! I love Italy and can’t wait to travel to see the rest of this amazing and beautiful country. <sigh> one day… But for now, heere is my little glimpse of Rome as a photographer might see it. We will start first on the Spanish Steps.

They have gelato (gelati) on every corner.. Gelato in Italy is like Starbucks in America… one on every corner and even across the street. Eating as much gelato as we did was much like a Dr. Suess Book.. I will eat it on the street, I will eat it on a bus, I will eat gelato in the colosseum, I will eat gelato with the Pope. Ok, maybe we didn’t eat gelato with the Pope, but he probably blessed some of it. At least, I felt blessed to be eating it.. lol. My favorite combo was coffee and nutella. Seriously..YUM!!

We are walking on a floor that was built 2000 years ago!! I can’t believe I’m standing here and it’s holding me up.” Haha, I may have said it a few hundred times.. but it was cool!! You had to be there :)

The Hills of Palatine were where the wealthy lived on a bit of hill so that they wouldn’t have to breath the air of the diseased lower class. The Roman Forum was the marketplace and civic center during 7th century BC. Many of the building have collapsed but some of the architecture still remains.

From the moment, i walked off the plane – I loved Rome, Italy. I’m not joking either.. I stepped on the ground, my smile was big, I inhaled and said, “I love it here.” And that was just at the airport! When sun rose the next day, I loved Rome even more. I loved the smell, I loved the sites, I loved the language and I LOVED the gelato. I love ROMA!! Looking at the all the photos, I get rather lost in them myself. It’s almost as if I post them then the trip is really over. Yet, I have delayed blogging long enough. I miss it. I just want to wake up every day, drive a vespa to a little cafe and read a book with the sights of Italy all around me. When I was walking the streets of Italy, I wondered if I could somehow take some art classes for a semester just to have a reason to stay!! Or if some romantic Italian man would sweep me off my feet (in the 4 days we were staying) and ask me to stay forever. But alas, it did not happen. <sigh> It’s time to say goodbye to Roma, which consequently even saying goodbye is fun in Italian – “arrivederci.” Then again, everything is better in Italy.
Our first day: We got up early per our concierge’s suggestion and headed over to Vatican city. Along the cobblestone roads, shops were just opening and the smell of fresh bread infiltrated the street. We stopped in a local bakery and ordered a pastry and a coffee that we could eat as we walked along the quiet Roma streets. The day was perfect with blue skies and warm sun, yet we had no idea just how much better the day would be. When we approached Vatican City, we couldn’t see anything because it’s surrounded by a giant wall. As walked through the gate to get to St. Peter’s Basilica, all of us were blown away by what we saw. That first moment became all of our favorite moment of the trip. Keep in mind, that though I am a professional photographer and my job is to make things and people look good – many of what you see- I cannot do justice with my camera. It’s one of those times where you really need to be there to fully absorb how amazing Roma is visually. This first picture is the very first thing we saw. There was slight breeze but the sun was warm and as you can see, the sky so blue. The street is covered in cobblestone as is most of Italy and the buildings highly ornate and rich with history. With the exception of a few nuns scurrying around, we were the only ones there. That perfect first moment is forever etched in my memory.

39 votes // vote as favoriteTowards the end of the tour, we were pretty much sprinting to get to the famous Michael Angelo chapel. I for one, like to look at art but after a few hours, I was pretty much done and just wanted to get to the highlight. The bad part is that once we got there, there were so many crowds of people, the room was dimly lit and we weren’t allowed to talk or take pictures. But being a typical American, most of us snuck a few in there. However, they had to be iphone pics so as to be more discreet. Excuse the blurriness, I had to be incognito and sneak the shot so I couldn’t really set it up. :)
26 votes // vote as favoriteThis stairway was beautiful but after we started going down the five spirals, we realized why so many people took other ways to get down there. The slope was such that you had to jog, but I for one got rather dizzy going down so fast. haha. Seriously, I took this picture just so I could get a breather and clear my dizzy head.

I don’t know if Paul was allowed to come to such a place while he was a prisoner, but this may have been a place where he went to the bathroom. lol.

Bonjour, C’est Bonne and nes parle Francais are the few phrases I know, but somehow we managed just fine. They say that the French are rude and don’t like Americans. Just to prove whoever they are wrong: while we were lost on the streets of Paris, a Parisian came up to us and asked if we needed help. Then he helped us find where we needed to go. In fact, everyone in Paris (as far as I could tell) was kind and patient with us. When I got stuck in the metro turnstyle, a Parisian without saying a word pushed me out. When my friend wasn’t sure which train to take, the nice Parisian man pushed her onto the one she needed to get on. I am pretty sure they thought, stupid American but they still helped us… LOL. I also made several other observations while walking the streets of Paris. One is that there are no fat people in Paris. Seriously, none. The other is that no one is Paris wore white tennis shoes or sweats. No man had droopy pants. And everyone wore scarves even the men. Everyone looked fashionable. I loved it. If it wasn’t so cold I would have loved it more. Fifty degree weather in Paris is not at all the same as 50 in Kentucky, just to give you future travelers a heads up.. bring a winter coat! Here are some of my favorites from the trip, starting with Notre Dame.

In the below picture you will see my friend, Amy, chasing the pigeons. She’s such an American.. haha, I may have told her to do it :). But seriously, so many people there like these nasty pigeons. Many people feed them so it was very hard to chase some without making people mad. We had to wait for a few to wander away from the safety of the crowd and then we struck. LOL.
37 votes // vote as favoriteNear Notre Dame is a bridge where everyone proclaims their love with a lock. I’m kinda a hopeless romantic so I kinda liked it. I’m not gonna lie I probably could have stayed there all day reading locks but Amy was cold so we went to get more warm crepes. That seemed reasonable to me. Look at the LOCKS!! I enjoyed seeing not only couples but also pledges given to families. I thought it was super sweet.

Sometimes performers would do amazing things to earn some money. Sometimes performers didn’t quite measure up. This guy was a trip. All of the local artists were egging him on, he may even been drunk. He was definitely humorous. I couldn’t only record a small bit because I was afraid he was crazy. haha.
Walking along the Champs Elyse – the most famous road in Paris. Lots of shopping to do. One thing you should know about Paris is that shopping is awesome there. There are so many choices. In Paris, they celebrate the small business owner and do not allow monopolies to take over. Thus, there are so many style choices. When I walk into our local mall, most of the clothes look the same – not in Paris. So many styles and options. I loved it.

During the slow season… i thought i would post some personal stuff. I have a great group of friends… actually several great groups of friends :), but this post is about one in particular. A group of seven girls who just happened to become friends through a church group and who are affectionately known as The Big Girls, BG’s for short. We called ourselves the Big Girls not because we were large but because we were the older ones in our little church group and we thought it beneficial to pray for and encourage the younger women in our group. We started out simply as a prayer group. Through that, we became close friends and the rest is well, history! We all have nicknames: TJ, Headuh, Noni, Man-Patty, The Reverend, TT and Wiggy. You can probably guess which one I am.. lol. We have gone on vacations together, celebrated one another’s birthdays, nicknamed all our previous boyfriends and just been true friends for about six years now. It truly is a blessing to have such a great group of friends. With marriage and children in the equation, we thought it necessary to begin a new tradition to get together for a weekend in the fall just to hang out and chat and of course, make delicious food. As you might have guessed, I documented the occasion with photos. Yet, not too many because we had a pact to not wear make-up or look presentable all weekend. Haha, but I may have snuck a few in – not of me, of course.. lol. Here are some of favorites from our little farmhouse retreat in the hills of Kentucky. I don’t think I could figure my way back there if I tried.

Help support a local non-profit and get a chance to win a free photoshoot or $500 off your wedding package if you book this month. I always try to do some type of free photography giveaway for Valentines. I have been so blessed this past year in my business, I was even voted Best of in Louisville for 2011. So, this year I want to share the love by giving back to an organization that is near and dear to my heart. For the last several years, trafficking has been on my heart and have wanted to use my photography skills to help stop trafficking across the globe. I kept thinking that trafficking was on the other side of the globe instead of being in the United States much less in my own city. A few years ago, I became aware of a ministry to women in the sex industry right here in my own city and I became intrigued . As of the last year, I have become very involved in the ministry Scarlet Hope. So, this year I want to give back by supporting this ministry!!

i can think of a million song lyrics right now. “All she wants to do is dance.. and find romance” Do you know that one? Ha.. I have been obsessed with dancing lately. I have been a dancer since I was 5. I was in ballet, jazz and tap class. I remember watching the older girls and thinking they were the bomb diggity. I actually invited them to my birthday party but they didn’t come – I’m not sure why a 17 year old wouldn’t want to come to a 6 year olds party. haha. But, I watched them step ball change and sashe.. and lots of other dance names that I can’t remember. I was hooked. My love for dance continued into middle and high school when I was on the dance team. We were pretty good.. winning competitions and such. I would often watch and re-watch Michael Jackson videos so that i could learn all the steps to Beat It and Thriller – and i did!! haha. If you hire me for your wedding, don’t be surprised to see me get up and do it. Haha… dance is in my blood! In the last two months, that passion for dance has been renewed. I watched this hip hop routine from SYTYCD… and well, i just had to learn it. In between editing shoots, i will often have a DANCE BREAK.. so i can practice. haha!! This is good that i don’t have a studio.. or people might just walk in and see me embarrassing myself. I loved it so much that I enrolled in a hip hop dance class with the Louisville Ballet. I know.. I am ridiculous! It has been amazing to just do something for fun that i absolutely love… it keeps me creative and it’s just for me. I don’t know what you got in you.. dance, writing, painting.. but whatever it is .. get up and do it. AND DANCE!!!

Yes, i realize that all you PETA members out there might be alarmed to hear that my five year old cousin tried to give the turtle lots of sugar so his turtle might win the race. The turtle may have been in a sugar coma since he came in last place this year. Anyways, the real reason I am writing this post is so that i can announce the winner of the free Photoshoot.
