YOU”RE ENGAGED!!!!! Now what? Well, you have a lot to do and many things can be overwhelming as you have to make many decisions regarding your wedding and what is best for you. One of those decisions is figuring out which Wedding Photographer to use. Here are some things to consider as you make those big choices regarding choosing the wedding photographer that is right for you. I asked a few of my friends (Jacobess Photography and Shannon Kelley Photography) who are also in the wedding photography business to give their feedback as well.
1. * What should a bride look for in a photographer?
Aside from great photography and a style you like, a bride should look for personal connection since the photographer will be with her on a very important day and sharing some intimate moments, it’s important that she feels comfortable with her photographer.
2. * Why is important to make an investment in photography for your wedding?
The photography often gets a small budget because so much of the budget goes toward other things – but it’s important to see photography as one of your biggest investments because you will have the photos for the rest of your life.
3. * What are some things to watch out for when choosing a photographer?
Look for hidden costs, it’s important that a photographer be straight with you about their charges. Also, look for good reviews from previous clients. And finally view a wedding that they have shot from start to finish.
4. * Is it important to order an album up front or just get one later?
I think it is important to budget for one in the beginning, otherwise it can be put to the side and forgotten for years. Plan on getting that accomplished within the first year (if not before).
5. * Should you have a second photographer at your wedding?
I think a second photographer is so important to the ceremony itself as it allows for less disruption, different perspectives and more photos.
6. * What’s a good amount to budget for photography?
It depends on how much you want your photographer around.. some brides plan wedding events all week and want a photographer to be at everything which is wonderful yet will add to the cost. I have read some articles that say 10% – 20% is ideal for a wedding photographer. The important thing to remember that out of everything.. the part that you will keep forever in well.. your husband, haha. And your photos. So, it’s important to consider that when choosing a budget for photography. I say if it costs a little more to get amazing photography then it’s worth it in the end.
7. * What will help the photographer in getting great shots for your big day?
relax and enjoy the day, see each other before the wedding and your pictures will be amazing.
Hope this helps.. and HAPPY PLANNING!!!!

In all my years of living in Louisville.. i have never been to Churchill Downs!! In fact, i have never even seen the outside of Churchill Downs much less the inside. Churchill Downs is pretty much what makes Louisville famous.. well, that and the Louisville Slugger Bat and Muhammed Ali. (Btw: i have never been to one of those either.) I guess living in Louisville does not prompt me to see all the tourist type things.. but i realized that i need to turn over a new leaf and at least experience my city. The funny thing is that several of my friends had never been to Churchill Downs either. So, we decided to remedy that faux pas and spend a day at the Downs!! Here are some of the adventures.
HORSES!!
So, we all decided to make a big bet of $2.00 across the board. Yeah, i know .. you are impressed with my lingo!! I actually know what that means.. ha, but Amy had to tell me :) The only experienced gambler in our midst.. haha.
7 votes // vote as favoriteAnd guess who won all the cash!! Yep.. a 6 year old!!
6 votes // vote as favoriteShe won the first two races.. We tried to coerce her to telling us who to pick in the following horse races.. but she decided not to share her gift with the rest of us and refused to bet anymore the rest of the day. Ha. I guess we don’t have to worry about her becoming addicted to gambling.
After losing our two dollars :) – we decided to take it down a notch and make a bet amongst ourselves. Guess who won that one!!

A little known fact about me is that i am fascinated by nutrition and homeopathic remedies. if I feel sick i much rather eat some kind of organic concoction then to take antibiotics. If i break out, i will eat lots of apples because that is supposed to help acne – actually apples help lots of dietary issues!! There were two times in my life where my family doctor suggested some kind of surgery .. and i refused – went to my homeopathic doctor and the problem was solved. So, i am a firm believer in healthy eating and natural remedies. I try to do some type of food detox once a year. I like to detox for two reasons.. it helps me get out of bad eating routine and it helps me jump start weight loss and excercise. I have done all kinds – some detox diets requiring epson salts -blah, and some using a fast of some sort, some where i only ate apples for a few days. some detox diet requiring enemas…. and some where i took all kinds of supplements.
But now, i found a great detox diet through the research of one of my friends. I called my homeopathic doctor and he concurred. So- i am starting a 2 week detox program. I have about 15 friends doing it with me. WE START TOMORROW!!! If you want to join us.. you can join our facebook group. i will keep you updated on the results. Here is a photo of my groceries for the week!!

Spent the day at the Louisville Zoo.. it’s changed since i was there 10 years ago :) – back when they had two animals – you think i’m joking. Ok.. i am. but they didn’t have much.. but now, they made it awesome. I really enjoyed going and hanging out with the Dabney family. And the Louisville Zoo is set up so it feels small and the animals seem so close – like i could just touch them. And it was a perfect day since all the animals were out where we could see them and not hiding in a corner somewhere. Check em out! oh.. and i just realized.. that if you click on any photo.. you can see a mini slide show of all the photos :)

10 votes // vote as favoriteYeah.. i think he kinda likes this. The funny part is .. it was broken..so we just sat on the animals and remained still.

You would think that as a photographer, on a day off.. you wouldn’t want to take photos. Quite the contrary – at least for me :)…. i wanted to play with my camera. So, i grabbed my good friend.. Amy and went to a local Louisville park to take some fun outdoor shots and of course experiment with photography.
One thing you should know.. is that i am addicted to bokeh. Bokeh is the stuff that is not in focus!! Sooo… I have to dedicate a few moments to my fetish with blur :)

After several days of rain, it was pretty much awesome to get outside and enjoy some beautiful weather and to play with my camera. So, i grabbed a friend and we went out and played at Tom Sawyer Park in East Louisville. I used to go there all the time to run on the track.. that track looks pretty daunting right now. i don’t think i could do one lap – may need to consider starting some fitness training here soon…. but that is another post and another day :)
I was so excited to see a field full of dandelions. If you know of one with more dandelions .. please contact me before mowing it all away!!!! i love them.. yes, i know they are a weed.. but they take a great picture. And a photoshoot in a field of dandelions is just what i have been craving :)
Here are some of the A-Mazing photos of our day kicking the dandelions :) kicking dandelions? yes.. that is what i said… if you ever need an activity to do in a field of dandelions.. there is one game you can play.. courtesy of my friend Amy. And it’s very easy to play.. just watch.
I on the other hand wanted to save the dandelion from Amy’s fury.

Every year in Louisville as part of the derby festivities – Louisville puts on the biggest annual firework show in the nation called Thunder over Louisville. I’ve gone in the rain and freezing cold and i’ve gone in the blistery hot – this year the weather was beautiful which means a lot more visitors in Louisville to see Thunder than normal. It was CRAZY with people running around. We were unable to get our favorite spot which meant we had to sit near the vendors – lots of foot traffic coming past us and also through us. One of the girls in our group wasn’t getting so frustrated with people walking through the middle of our tarp that she found caution tape and surrounded our area .. haha… it worked for a bit. She may have gotten yelled at by some passerbys :) ha. Luckily she’s so sweet – she didn’t get beat up!
Unfortunately, my battery on my camera was dying.. but i did manage to save some power to get some shots of the fireworks. Here are some of the highlights from Thunder Over Louisville!!!
One of my best friends came to town to visite and she brought with her – a new friend… so enjoyed having both of them around.
LIGHTS!! to get the excitement going!!
